FGC POP AND PROJECT THRIVE AT RHODE ISLAND SCHOOL OF DESIGN (RISD)
First Generation Pre-Orientation Program (FGC POP) and Project Thrive are programs for First-Generation students at RISD.
Being a First-Generation student myself, I found the experience of going into RISD quite overwhelming, and the design of the information and schedule did not make my transition easier.
In 2023, I reached out to the First Generation staff at RISD and offered to work with them to make the design of the programs accessible, welcoming, fun, and informative. The goal was to make the logos and typeface recognizable and simple, then contrast it through artistic fun such as using Rowe Park's illustrations, vibrant colors, and abstract shapes. Using a yam, the fifth element represents unique paths that gets students to where they are now -- RISD!
PROJECT THRIVE
Project Thrive is an extension of FGC POP. It is a community of First Generation students who have finished the Pre-Orientation Program.
